At Immanuel Baptist Church, our purpose is summarized as Loving God, Loving People.
This purpose is based on Jesus’ teaching recorded in the New Testament (see Mark 12:28 and following for details). Jesus had been asked a question that you have may have wondered about as well:
“Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
Jesus replied:
“The most important one is this: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Jesus identified the greatest commandments: love God, and love people. So that’s what we want to do.
This purpose, Loving God, Loving People, is easy to understand, but more challenging to put into practice, day-in and day-out. Our passion for inspiring worship, practical teaching, and caring relationships helps us achieve our purpose of Loving God and Loving People.
Loving God begins with being reconciled to Him. If you’re not sure what that means, or whether it describes you, then you might want to start with this article about Coffee, Gardening and God .
