The Glory of God in the Garden Department

God can pick some unexpected ways to show a glimpse of His glory. For me, recently, the occasion was an unexpected car repair. That wasn’t so glorious, but the extra hour and a half that was needed gave me an opportunity to browse around at a nearby farm supply store, and that was an awe-inspiring visit.

Follow Me?

Is the example of your lifestyle worth following?  My morning devotional reading included this statement by the apostle, Paul:

“Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NASB).

Thankfulness in the War Against Worry

Scripture instructs us not to worry about anything. It’s not just an instruction, it’s a command. There’s a tall order! Same-sex "Marriage:" Biblical Guidance

In the wake of the Iowa Supreme Court's decision striking down the state law that banned gay “marriage,” there have already been many voices heard in response. Whether I am reading current events on this topic in print, online, or hearing or viewing broadcast media, I seek to calibrate my thinking and response from a biblical worldview. With that goal in mind, here are five truths offered as biblical guidance. This is admittedly not all that the Bible has to say on this issue, but these are briefly offered as guiding lights with Scripture references provided.

Weary? Here's Rest

Here’s an invitation from Jesus:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NASB).

Simple directions, full joy

It was one of the first dishes I learned to cook on the grill: potato packs. (I was a Cub Scout. This was camp food. Yes, I am unashamedly pushing the season.) For each serving:

From Mourning Blight to Morning Bright

In the midst of much turmoil, here is a word of enduring hope. With parts of our city and of our national economy in need of rebuilding, here is a word of enduring truth. As we confront the challenges of life in this fallen world, here are promises with which we, as believers, can face each day with calm assurance, and with an anticipation of His goodness, as one who waits for the sunrise.
